New In: Fan Bingbing Doll

Did you spot all the news articles talking about Barbie’s new look? In case you missed it, a week ago Mattel announced the release of their new Barbie dolls with new body shapes from Curvy to Tall and Petite. Women all over the world were happy to see Mattel deciding to produce dolls in various shapes, sizes, and skin tones, which are more representative of the real world.

“The Evolution of Barbie” #TheDollEvolves.

The Barbie collector in me is really excited that Mattel finally has decided to step up to the plate and do what consumers have been requesting for such a long time. Now the business woman in me also knows that Mattel had no other choice to appease their customer base. Their sales have been decreasing since 2012 and Mattel losing their Disney license to their biggest rival Hasbro also hasn't helped. Yet I am hopeful that Mattel will be able to find their way back to the top if they continue to listen to their customers.

I am myself just bought the Fan Bingbing collector Doll. Fan Bingbing is a Chinese actress, singer and producer known in the west for her role as blink in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Fun Fact: Forbes magazine lists her as the 4th highest paid actress in the world. Time to check out Asian Cinema I say.

The doll looks even more beautiful in real life than the promotional pictures on the Barbie collector website (link here). The Fan Bingbing Barbie doll wears a yellow dragon robe, which is the same dress she wore at the Cannes Film Festival.

The robe was designed by Laurence Xu whose designs are inspired by Chinese dynasties. The dress made its debut at the Couture Fall/Winter 2013 fashion show during Paris fashion week. Actress Blake lively was also spotted wearing the yellow dress during her promotional tour for her upcoming movie “Log Out” which part of a new US/China Sci-fi franchise.
